Kolkata Metro is all set to unveil the much-awaited Kavi Subhash–Hemanta Mukhopadhyay stretch of the Orange Line.
Currently undergoing trial runs, the metro is ensuring everything is in top-notch condition for its upcoming launch, as reported by The Financial Express.
Scheduled to be open to the public by January 2024, the new line recently completed five successful round trips. The trials, conducted using an air-conditioned Medha rake, assessed crucial factors such as track conditions, power supply, proper docking of the rake, and the efficiency of station staff.
The Kavi Subhash–Hemanta Mukhopadhyay stretch has received the green light from the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), ensuring all safety protocols are met.
Kolkata Metro Orange Line: Stations
The stretch covers three stations, namely Satyajit Ray (Hiland Park Area), Jyotirindra Nandi (Metro Cash & Carry and Ajoy Nagar Area), and Kavi Sukanta (Abhishikta Crossing Area).
Kolkata Metro Orange Line: Ticket Price
In a move to enhance passenger convenience, authorities have introduced a single-ticket system that allows seamless travel from the Blue Line to the Orange Line, making the journey across the network more convenient for commuters. The fare structure for this new route ranges from Rs 20 as the minimum fare to Rs 45 as the maximum fare.
Kolkata Metro: Expanding Reach
This comes as part of Kolkata Metro’s ongoing expansion efforts. Last year, the Joka to Taratala stretch of the Purple Line was opened, providing a secure and efficient mode of travel for residents in the southern part of the city. The Purple Line extension was constructed at a cost of Rs 2477.25 crores, further establishing Kolkata Metro as a key player in the city’s transportation network.
