Coco Gauff will be taking on Aryna Sabalenka in the Women’s Singles final of the US Open on Sunday, September 10, at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. This will be the first time that both women are competing in the summit clash of the US Open. Gauff will be enjoying the home advantage and is expected to see a lot of support from the amazing USA fans at the Flushing Meadows.
After the American got confirmed as her final opponent, Sabalenka said, “Of course, I would prefer to have someone else or (the) crowd would be a little bit probably like the same to both players.”
As per the latest ATP rankings, Sabalenka is currently the best female player in the world. She will hope to do justice to her reputation while playing against the sixth-seeded Gauff, who is yet to secure his maiden Grand Slam title. Meanwhile, if Sabalenka emerges victorious on Sunday, it will be her second major title in this calendar year.
Sabalenka won the Australian Open title to start off the year on a dominant note. She also defeated Gauff en route to the finals at Indian Wells. But she fell short of Iga Switek in the summit clash. Despite the defeat, Gauff still keeps the upper hand in the head-to-head records against Sabalenka, having won three of the five matches.
Being the world’s no 1, Sabalenko will certainly enter the US Open final as the favourite. But it won’t be an easy assignment for her, with Gauff desperate to clinch her maiden Grand Slam title on home soil.
