In a move to handle long-haul, wide-body international flights at the Chennai Airport terminal, the authorities are gearing up to bring an additional aerobridge for Code E aircraft (types of plans whose wingspan fall under 52 m to 65m).
It has been reported that the construction for the same is already underway, and will kickstart the operations by March 2024. The news already has been confirmed by the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The initiatives have been taken after witnessing the international flight cancelation due to a shortage of aerobridges.
Upcoming 3 Code E Capable Aerobridge
The report says after completing the terminal phase 2 work at Chennai airport, the authorities will bring a total of 3 Code E capable aerobridges. The deadline has been given till 2025. After the mentioned year, nine aerobridges are expected to get into the business for Code E aircraft, allowing international operations to move seamlessly.
Here’s What Ministry Says
As per the details shared by daijiworld, quoting the ministry, where it said, “The new generation wide-bodied long-haul aircraft A350 and B777 which are being operated and which are being ordered by airlines for future are Code-E type of aircraft, and Chennai Airport can handle them.”
Meanwhile, the Chennai Airport terminal complex is equipped with 13 Aerobridges, helping the bussiness to operate smoothly.
