Godfather To Tagore, 5 Chiranjeevi Movies That Were Remakes
Chiranjeevi’s Godfather was a remake of the superhit Malayalam film Lucifer which starred superstar Mohanlal in the titular role.

Megastar Chiranjeevi is currently immersed in his upcoming Telugu socio-fantasy film Vishwambhara, directed by Mallidi Vassishta and featuring Trisha Krishnan alongside him. Anticipated for release on January 10, 2025, under the banner of UV Creations, the high-budget pan-India venture aims to captivate audiences with its unique storyline.

Bhola Shankar

Chiranjeevi’s previous film, Bhola Shankar, directed by Meher Ramesh, failed to make a mark at the box office. A remake of the 2015 Tamil film Vedalam, Bhola Shankar couldn’t replicate the success of its predecessor. However, this setback isn’t unfamiliar to Chiranjeevi, who has featured in numerous remakes throughout his illustrious four-decade-long career, with varying degrees of success.

Godfather

In 2022, Chiranjeevi starred in Godfather, a remake of the Malayalam blockbuster Lucifer, helmed by director Prithviraj Sukumaran and featuring superstar Mohanlal. Despite boasting an ensemble cast including Nayanthara, Satya Dev and Puri Jagannadh, Godfather failed to resonate with audiences and underperformed at the box office, despite a cameo appearance by Bollywood superstar Salman Khan. The film was directed by Mohan Raja.

Khaidi No. 150

A highlight of Chiranjeevi’s career came with Khaidi No. 150 in 2017, an official remake of Thalapathy Vijay’s Tamil film Kaththi. Directed by VV Vinayak and starring Chiranjeevi and Kajal Aggarwal, the film marked Chiranjeevi’s return to lead roles after an absence since the 2006 film Stalin. Khaidi No. 150 emerged as a blockbuster hit, becoming the highest-grossing Telugu film of 2017. The original Kaththi was written and directed by AR Murugadoss.

Shankar Dada MBBS

In 2004, Chiranjeevi delivered a massive hit with Shankar Dada MBBS, a remake of the Bollywood blockbuster Munna Bhai MBBS by Rajkumar Hirani. Directed by Jayanth C Paranjee, the film featured Chiranjeevi, Sonali Bendre, Srikanth, Irish Karnad and Paresh Rawal in pivotal roles, earning significant acclaim and completing a successful 100-day run at the box office.

Tagore

Another noteworthy success came with Tagore in 2003, an official remake of AR Murugadoss’ Tamil film Ramana. Directed by VV Vinayak, the film starred Chiranjeevi, Jyothika, Shriya Saran and Prakash Raj, becoming a blockbuster hit and even earning a screening at the International Indian Film Academy Awards.
